I would choose the scope.
A better scope gives you that little edge you might need when faced with a once in a lifetime buck. Oh yeah, kiss your wife and tell her she's the greatest. :D

Get the scope............then hold off and save gas and grocery money in a few weeks get the trail cam and tell her you won it at boofest or something like that and your good to go we wont tell. You gotta work carefully on these important hunting needs and do whatever it takes. !!! It stinks sometimes being self employed no benifits but the cash n side jobs are great when l need to slip under mrs boss's hunting radar

I'd probably go with the game cam, but I'm a game cam junkie.

a cheap trail cam will miss a few shots or maybe take blurry pics but, while annoying, you can make do. you haven't missed out on the deer, just his picture. miss a shot cuz your cheap scope does not gather light or the reticle is hard to read etc and you missed the opportunity all your prior effort earned for you. IMHO a good scope trumps a good trail cam. sounds like with a great wife like you've got, you've got 3 more chances in the next year to upgrade ur cam: xmas, birthday, & next year's anniversary!
