copy/paste's from his wife's couple of emails.........
Darrel's at Grand View/Aspirus. He had a stroke Monday night, in the frontal lobe. It's affected his muscles. They're still doing more tests and repeating some from yesterday to see if there's any improvement. His mind is clear again, although yesterday it sure wasn't. He's exhausted and can't do much of anything. Lots of physical and occupational therapy coming. This is a nightmare.

I talked to him this a.m. and will be going there shortly. He had a rough night. They discovered he has an infection throughout his body, too. He's hooked up to an IV, getting antibiotics. His words were a little slurred this a.m. and he kept losing his train of thought. Still has mobility issues, but that's going to take a long time to get back with physical and occupational therapy. I'm hoping to talk to the dr., I keep missing him.

Lynn

i will do my best at posting updates as i learn them

just received this email from darrel's wife

"Doing a lot better, but the blood infection is being stubborn. It's e.coli in his blood stream, and a colonoscopy is needed to make sure there's not going to be another transfer from that to his blood system.from his colon He's not having it! Stroke is not new; happened some time ago, according to the MRI. This whole fiasco is most likely due to the blood infection and the heart valve failure, as well as really high blood pressure. He's back to being a grump, so that's a good sign. I feel so sorry for the nurses!"

This may actually be somewhat better news than an extremely recent stroke.
Blood infections are not overly difficult to deal with in most cases.
The heart valve... well... another matter.

Back to being a Grump sounds not only familiar, but damn good IMO!

Still gotcha in the prayers Man!
Now get on with the gettin' better part!

Cheers,
Nog

copy paste from darrel himself......

Thought I would post this synopsis of what happened to me. First of all, I’m home now. This started Tuesday mid morning. I woke up feeling fine but by 9:00 I was shivering real bad with terrible chills Went back to bed From there it’s a blur until late that night when I was in hospital. I had no control over any muscle in my body didn’t have any strength to hardly move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t do much of anything. Tests that night showed a front lobe stroke, and my heart is working at about 35% efficiency where a normal heart is working at 65-75% efficiency, with 55% being minimum needed. So that means drugs to prevent any more decline, there’s no recovery means. This was compounded by a severe infection throughout my blood Actually was more dangerous than the stroke as my system was fighting on two fronts to address the issue. Anyway after four days of tests, heavy antibiotics and heart meds, plus rest I was able to be released this morning. It’s taken its toll and I’m wore down. I guess it’s doing things in moderation and not doing some things from now on. At least I’m alive able to sit up and take nourishment
I appreciate everyone’s well wishes and offers of any help I might need. I’m a grumpy, grizzled old bear and I’ll make it, one way or the other
