SCOPE FOR BULLDOG 400

Post by CT.HNTR »

Just bought my second Bulldog 400 and I trying to decide what scope to put on it. I have used Nikon IR Bolts on all my crossbows and have had no issues and it's a real nice scope. For my new Bulldog I am looking again at scopes to see what options are out there. Thinking about trying a VX-R with a firedot pig plex reticle.

Thoughts?

I think scopes and expectations are a pretty individual thing and your own applications factor in as well. I had a VX-R 3-9X40 with the ballistic firedot reticle on my M380 and absolutely loved that reticle....I still do but on my slug gun. I bought a heavy duplex reticle and didn't care for it but the new owner loves it. I'm currently using the vortex viper XB-R crossbow scopes and they are my favorite for quality of glass, clarity, and adjustability. Others have found the reticle too busy. I say buy the best optics you can afford that suit your needs and you'll be off to the races.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your input. It's much appreciated.

I went up to Cabela's this morning and checked out the VX-R and while it's good quality I thought the reticle was a bit too busy for what I am looking. I ended up buying another Nikon IR Bolt. It's small, compact and I like the reticle. They have worked great for me in the past so I decided to stick with what has been working for me and not reinvent the wheel!

The Trophy Ridge 1.5-5x32x25mm SpeedComp XV525IR Illuminated Reticle Crossbow Scope is selling for $79.99 on eBay and is getting very good ratings on the forums. It is made by Hawke for Bear Archery and has a lifetime warranty. It is a knockoff of the XB1 Sr.

I compared a lot of high end scopes last week and I too ended up with a Nikon Bolt, it is very bright even when compared to scopes costing 3X the price. Still hanging on to the XB30 that came on my Micro just in case...but the size and weight of the Nikon is perfect.
