ADF saved the day. Trigger Tech question

Post by lunghit »

Was shooting my 350 LE and forgot to load an arrow :? Thank god for the ADF on this bow. After this happened I noticed my shots were getting lower and lower. I looked over the bow and realized my scope mount was loose. I think the sudden jolt from the string catching the ADF moved the whole scope assembly upward.

Now during this shooting session after the almost dryfire my Trigger Tech failed to reset. I tried cocking it and the string would not lock in, and ended up on the ADF. I noticed the latch was still down but I was able to reset it and then cock the bow. My question is could the whole loose scope assembly cause the TT to not reset? Never had this happen with my TT. Thanks

claws resetting has been known to happen with a TT unit. They say its from not following through with the trigger.
I have never experienced it myself. Follow through and see if it happens again.
Its just a coincidence it happened after a dryfire it would hve nothing to do with it.

I just fired a few more shots and it happened again. I will try to make sure I follow through from now on. Does this mean I am holding the trigger in the fire position for too long or not long enough? Thanks

ive had that auto re-set issue come up on several different model Excals.sent a few triggers back to T.T. and had them looked at. cant say they totally fixed the issue but found it happens less if you follow thru your trigger pull all the way back.when it happens to a higher poundage model like a Mega 405 its a major pain to get the string off of the anti dry fire latch. unless you look every time you cock you wont catch that condition. id give T.T. a call to see if it can be looked at or get there opinion.

Just took some more shots and it hasn't happened again. So just the two times and it's been fine. Kind of strange because it's never happened before then suddenly twice within 5 shots.
When this happened all I did was pull the trigger and the claws opened up so not a big deal I guess. I will keep an eye on it.

if you think its something that just came about id still give them a call. its a trigger and safety comes first. if its the start of something else better to be safe.

Following through means pulling the trigger all the way when you shoot it. Not feathering it just until the shot goes off then releasing the trigger. Squeeze it like it owes you money!

Funny now that we are talking about it I have been feathering it. I was going for the lightest squeeze I can and that's when it started. You guys are probably right so I will definitely squeeze harder before I take it any farther with TT.

I am not sure if I am reading your statement correctly or not. Just in case I thought I would add lightly squeezing the trigger is never a bad thing(never jerk or pull the trigger). But if you do lightly squeeze a TT trigger, keep squeezing untill you hit the back or bottom, untill the travel stops.

A slow steady squeeze while focusing on the target (shot should be a surprise).....continue to squeeze until the trigger stops while focusing on the target......and hold that position while focusing on the target until you see the arrow hit the target while looking through the scope.

This, above is exactly how every shot should be. I know plenty of hunters that don't understand what it means to "follow thru" with the shot.

They want to look up to see what they hit and end up shooting below their target because as you look up and to the left (right handed shooter) you will notice your lead hand will drop slightly down as you ever so slightly lift the stock off your shoulder to clear your line of sight.

I did exactly that on a doe last year at 26 yards. Shot right under her belly and it took me a few seconds to realize I had done so. I sat there watching her walk around sniffing my arrow and trying to figure out what had happened till she finally wandered off. I knew what I had done as soon as I realized I had actually missed her.
I was actually glad I did cause it was 8:15 AM and I had a doctor's appointment at 9. Should never had shot in the first place.
