back up crossbow suggestions

Post by hunter with MS »

I need a few suggestions on what to get for a back up . My matrix 330 cracked a limb the other day while practicing for bear season that opens in just a little over 2 weeks and I have to send the limb assembly in for warranty my back up at this time is my exomax problem being the max is just a little heavy for me as my MS has weakened my arms I do shoot off of a stand but I am looking to replace the max with something in the matrix series . My problem is do I go up to the 350 or 355 or go down to the something like the 310 ? Any input would be helpful.

There is a Grizzly in the Trading Post that would be a great back up bow. The seller is a good guy too. I think you would be set, and the price he's asking is very good.

First of all pull the limbs if you can and send them only as it is a lot cheaper to mail that way.
For the money I would definitely buy a Matrix 350. Best bang for your bucks out there and mine is easy to cock. Only problem I see doing this is the 350 will become your go to bow. :)

I agree on either of the 2 suggestions, especially the 350. However, for $80 its hard to go wrong with a backup set of blemished limbs. Stress your urgency.

Agreed... I would, and have gone the Matrix 350 route myself. Easy to cock and full camo as well for under $600.00 delivered...

You should have it back in about a week. ;)
Since you have MS I would suggest the 310... it is an awesome little bow and plenty capable of bringing down deer or black bear. The 310 is also very enjoyable for target shooting all afternoon without wearing you out. :)

Actually, the Matrix 310 and the Grizzly are pretty much the same crossbow.

How do you find the 330 for cocking effort? Although the 350 or 355 are great bows. They are also heavier and harder to cock than your 330.

Some days I use a crank and some days I can use the rope but not for many shots . I use the crank on the emax which I took out today just in case the limb assembly don't get here . I shoot the crossbow on a caldwell deadshot fieldpod as my arms are not strong enough to hold the crossbow up without shaking or lowering the front of the crossbow . As my MS progresses it is affecting my legs as well as my arm strength in both arms more on the right so using the rope is a no go and using the crank is getting harder as the handle is on the right side .

While I agree that they should be harder to cock my 350 actually is easier for me to cock than my 330 is. Makes absolutely no sense at all but there it is. :) Feels about 10 lbs lighter cocking it but shoots 30 fps faster.

They should make a left hand crank or have them where you could switch the handles over.

That's what I was thinking about, it would make more sense to get a bow with less cocking effort for your backup. Then eventually it could be your main bow, should it ever come to that.

I think the cheapest route for you would be to order an extra set of blemished limbs from excalibur.. and maybe an extra riser so that you could just swap riser and limb assembly quickly if needed. But I gotta admit, you don't usually hear of broken limbs on a 330 so I consider it a rare occurrence.
