Ground blinds owners do you?

Post by ihunt »

Hey everyone :D
Just want to know do you UV and/or waterproof protect your ground blind or do you just leave it as is? If so, what do you recommend, what product do you use?

Thanks appreciated it.

Mine are usually set up back in trees and brushed in - not in direct sunlight

plastic/vinly/ nylon material can be real hard to uv protect as it repels water for the most part

Thanks for the replies. I let mine air out to remove that 'new' smell odour going to set-up this week and brush-in, getting ready for the bow/crossbow season can't wait!!!

I leave mine (Ameristep doghouse most of the time) out year-round. Maybe once a year lube the zippers and that's about it for maintenance. They usually last about 4 years, which is around $15.00/year investment. When they start to fall apart (usually the zippers go first) I start shopping for a bargain price for a replacement.

If I remember correctly, I think I seam sealed the seams on my Doghouse. I would also set my tent up outside at home to air it out, and then put it away in the bag, along with a bunch of cedar branches.

I leave my doghouses up till they die......l brush em in real good .l make a kind of teepee top with big branches then build from that with wire ties n brush. Usually l get two seasons out of em. Never really sealed them. I figure at 60 bucks 2 seasons is 30 bucks a year ....not that bad. Usually a zipper breaks before the fabric rips. Never had any serious leaks killed 6 doghouses already.lol

Lol what you kill them with?

So, the results are in no need to treat the blinds.

Lol true, I've had mine half flattened by snow, but it popped back with no damage after brushing the snow off.

Make sure you tie them off securely to trees or fence posts.... (the voice of experience)

I tie the roof to an overhanging tree branch to stop the snow from collapsing it.

The fun part is digging it out of the snow to take it down without breaking the poles
