Excalibur Micro 335 RAID

Post by br6ppc »

I picked up a new X Bow, the Micro 335 RAID pkg. I was very apprehensive about the high draw weight of the 335. I currently have an Ibex which has a draw weight of 175lbs. The Micro 335 has a draw weight of 270lbs. I was looking for a dealer that had a Micro 315 in stock. Well, my closest dealer had a 335 in stock as a demo. I went and tried the 335. I was surprised at the short power stroke which makes the bow easier to cock than it would seem. I did not have much difficulty cocking the 335 with the rope cocking aid. The 335 shot so great that I picked up a Micro 335 RAID pkg. I love this bow. Very compact and very accurate. With the silencer package, it is quiet compared to my Ibex. Can't wait for archery opening now. The arrow group was at 30 yds and different aim points. This bow will tear up arrows out to 30 yds for me if shot at the same aimpoint.

Just got my Raid last week. Absolutely love it. I'm impressed with the whole suppression system, really does quiet it down. More of a thump then a metallic twang. Not that it matters, the deer never minded the twang before, lol. I've been shooting the quills that came with it and performance seems close to my matrix 355. Shooting 435gr arrows on the 355 and the quills are close to 400gr. New arrows for Raid came in yesterday which will drop me down to about 390gr with a 100gr field point.

I'm curious, has anyone chronographed a Raid yet with the whole suppression system on it? I'm guessing 315ish with a 400gr arrow

I will probably have my chronometer set up this weekend for working on some pistol loads. I'll run a few shots over and see what velocities I'm getting. I'll weigh my arrows, but I'm shooting Quills with 125 gr points.

Wow cool, that's not bad at all. It seemed like it was shooting at a pretty good speed compared to my 355. Was expecting it to be noticeably slower but its not with the lighter arrows. What a sweet crossbow!

Okay folks, I just shot mine over my chrono. With all the silencer equipment, it averaged 346.7 FPS for 4 shots. The Quills, with 125 gr points, weighed 379 grains. When I was calibrating the tact zone scope, I had to turn the power ring up to just shy of the 350 fps mark. Now I know why after shooting it over the chronograph.

That came from my Oehler 35P which has always been pretty reliable for me. Sometimes, I actually have questioned it reading low with some rifle loads.

What does it shoot with 100 GRN points on it.
Try shooting it over a chroni inside with a light kit using blunt tipped points.
What can happen with a pointed tip is it distorts the shadow or makes it harder to read, so if the first beam doesn't register the tip, but picks up at the area at the shaft. But then the second Beam picks up the shadow from the tip, theoreticaly the arrow could be 1/2" or whatever through before the chroni even registers it. Could possibly work the opposite as well. I found a dark room under two controlled LeD light sources provided the most accurate REPEATABLE results.
Results do seem high, especially with all of the sound reading on there.

With that said, I did have a set of limbs for my old 355 last year that were blasting through 10 feet faster than two other sets. Same time, same string same arrow, same everything lol. if that's the case, awesome score!

Regardless of what it shoots the raid is one sweet looking bow. I'd like to see one with a tan cryptic pattern one day.

Congrats on the new toy

Don't have a light setup for my chrono as it's primarily for guns. I'll try it with some different points and see if there is a difference. But, it's still an awesome X Bow.
