Has Anybody Done This

Post by CT.HNTR »

I have a spot I am planning on hunting this year from Halloween to the middle of November. It's a very long hike in (almost 2 miles) and I dread carrying all my gear every morning. I was contemplating leaving my X-Bow in the tree overnight so I don't have to hike it in every morning.

Other than the obvious concerns regarding thief are there any concerns with leaving the X-bow hanging in the tree overnight?

Where I bear hunt, I will often leave some stuff in my blind, including my M405. I leave it the evening before when I drive in to bait. Then I walk in just at first light so I can ease into my blind making sure I don't scare away a bear at the bait in the dark. I'll walk in with a light pack and my M380.
Concerning leaving valuables such as Xbows depends on the area and mindset of the hunter. When I've left xbows in a treestand, I've had a large trash bag around the xbow.

I leave my equipment in my blinds as long as it isn't raining, snowing or high winds. I have done that once on a windy evening only to come back the next morning to a missing blind and all my equipment soaking wet from the thunderstorm that happened that evening! If the weather is clear, I have left my stuff & bow out for a week in my blinds. Now I would NEVER do that on public land or land I'm unfamiliar with!

Thanks for the feedback. I am glad to see others have tried this. I like the idea of covering the bow in a large plastic bag as I was concerned about how it would perform if it developed frost overnight and the bag should or may prevent this from happening!

I am not to keen on plastic bags, they make too much noise fer me. Iusually cover mine wid a canvas drop /ground cloth or put my heavy Huntin coat over it. Both are water proof n can stand rain fer hrs on end

If you live in New Jersey, don't leave anything on private or public land.

Consider all species of rodents that may live in your area...those little buggers can surely eat through your string overnight.

Using a camo poncho is another thought- cheap- waterfroof , an old came shirt or jacket should work fine also.

anything left out is unfortunately fair game for "thieves"

yes even hunters can be thieves

X2 Exactly my thoughts. I hunt on a private farm and have found cigarette buts in my blind a day or two later. (I don't smoke)

Not something that I would do. More concerned about rodents than thieves in my woods. And you never know if something will come up to prevent you from getting back for a day or 2 despite your best laid plans.
