What do you guys climb with

Post by longbow joe »

[url=https://postimg.org/image/yzfbv3wol/]Image[l was wondering what you guys climb with. I am a big fan of the ladderstand. But l still use my 1990s loc on tiny windwalker treestand it weighs only 7 pounds kinda small but l can clip it to my back pack and only have the sticks n bow in hand.l have a 1990s trailhawk climber that l used to death but other than the holes being a little bit worn its like new. I still hug the tree instead of a climbing aid. Im a 12footer nowadays rarely go much higher.

I climb with a Summit Viper climber. Quite and comfortable and easy for this old man to carry in and out daily.

I have an old API Grand Slam Super Star that I've climbed about two trees in the last ten years with. I swear that things weighs 30+ pounds. They didn't make it with us mountain climbers in mind. Now that I hunt almost exclusively on private land, I have a couple ladder stands and a couple hang-on stands with climbing sticks. My favorite is a small hang on that I have chained to a tree about 24 feet up with climbing sticks up to it. The tree has a big fork at 18 feet and another at 20 feet so I am surrounded by three trunks for cover. Not that you need a lot of cover up that high. I do use a safety rope so I'm tethered from the moment I leave the ground.

If I were ever to buy a new climber, I'm confident anything over 20 pounds would be scratched from my list so that doesn't leave many options. The Summit Viper or Mini Viper would get a good look.

OlMan Drone is the heaviest one I have, but very comfortable for the long days, it is the one. For long walk in's, I take the Timber Tall Brute at 14 lbs. I can get up there high too with it, My oldie but goodie is the Equalizer. It is far better than most at 21 lbs, it is level adjustable on the fly, and locks on a tree like nothing out there. They unfortunately did not survive the market climate, but Buck Shot did resurrect them, and all of their accessories. I'm stocking up on the few parts that do wear, and I'll have it until i die!

The Timber Tall, yes it is leveling on the climb, lightest stand at 14# fully assembled, and bites the tree like a squirrel. It is my long haul stand by far. Public Land Gun Hunting MoFo. No matter what you choose, get the treestand transport, it takes about 40% off your back, and puts it on your hips, keeps it from sliding side to side too. I bought extra clips to change from one stand to another.
