RAMCAT Terminal Performance on a Buck

Post by nchunterkw »

Shot this little buck Friday night. I was sitting on the ground in a ghille suit.
Shot was at 20 yards quartering away. Micro 335, 413gr arrow tipped with a 125grain RamCat BH.
Deer ran for maybe 45yds total in a loop. Ended up 35yds from where I hit him. From shot until he crashed was maybe 5 seconds?
This is the entry wound, it exited through the shoulder bone. I recovered the arrow at the POI, BH in perfect shape. First drop of blood was 1yd away from POI, alleviating the idea that a deer needs to "fill up" before the blood starts flowing.

I spect blood will spray as the air is flowin in n out of the lungs. Hit high most will flow into the chest cavity. I have n you mayhave seen all sorts of runs by deer. Some fall get up n run more, run into trees n so on. They will leave drops n spray along the way. When hit low in the chest cavity in its lungs blood jus starts pourin out very quickly

I've not seen a head consistently make a better blood trail. The blood trail on my last bison was crazy like this as well. Outfitter was really impressed. If you look at the design, I think the "scoops" in the ferrule contribute both to the great penetration and good blood. Same concept as on the Ruger ARX self defense ammo. My only complaint is that I wish the blades were a bit thicker.....but yeah I'll stick with these for a while yet.
