"New" Trigger Tech - Decock Issue

Post by nchunterkw »

I was a lucky winner who had to send my TT on my Micro in under the warranty repair. Now on the new one, almost everytime I de-cock my bow using the rope cocker the claws stay down and I can't cock the bow. I have to actually try to cock it and have the string bump the trigger back so it resets, then I have to pull the trigger to make the claws open, then I can cock it. PITA, but I will live with it through hunting season. Anyone else seeing this? It does not happen when I shoot it though. Only during the decocking.

Why not use a pencil or a stick instead?

When mine did this I would push the trigger lever forward to reset then pull the trigger.

Just talked with TT. They have heard of the issue of some triggers auto cocking upon firing and think they have fixed that problem. I believe he said bad batch of springs. They haven't heard of the decock issue, but in any case they will replace frfee of charge. There is no danger, so I am opting to wait until the end of the season to replace it.

Yeah. I like the idea of Trigger Tech. I still have one in my non-Excal bow. But I don't think I'm going to be buying any more of them. They've had issues from the very beginning with the claws bouncing back shut, and there was a thread here not long ago about how the case threads strip out easily. I just don't see these as a minor things when their triggers cost about $150.

Now with this decock issue, AGAIN! This is an excerpt from an email I sent someone about my TriggerTech, dated in July 2013: "The TriggerTech trigger is probably getting sent back for evaluation. It bounces closed every single time I use the rope cocker to let the bow down. Frank says that's not right." So obviously they've had years to perfect their after-market trigger and just don't seem to have done it.

I'm not trying to take anything away from them. Their trigger is smooth with no creep and breaks nicely. But these other issues are a pox on their product.

Incidentally, I'm extremely pleased with the Exomax trigger I kept in my recent "Exomatrix" hybrid build. It has a hair longer powerstroke than a Matrix 380, yet the trigger feels every bit as good as a TriggerTech. I'm not saying that all my Excalibur triggers have been this nice; my Matrix 355 trigger was pretty gritty and had a lot of creep. I suspect it could have been polished up to be super nice though (I don't have it anymore to give that a try so I guess I'll never know for sure).

Anyhow, good luck with it.

I have owned 3 TTs over the years and I was told it’s user error because I’m not following thru on the trigger squeeze. I called BS on that years ago. I have two dual stage units that have been recalled and I’m waiting to send them back until after the season. Maybe by then they will have a fix for this? Not holding my breath though.

Since they haven't fixed their issues in 4+ years, I wouldn't hold my breath either. :?

Maybe with enough of us griping they'll pay attention and fix these issues. I was also told bounceback was due to me not following through on my shot. That may well have been true, but I don't think the trigger should have that weakness; how many of us have absolutely perfect form? Plus that didn't address my latches closing when I was decocking the bow.
