Inside Dia. of easton 2216 shafts?

Post by L. E. Carroll »

I was given almost 2 dozen like new, almost full length, camo 2216 XX75's last night. .. My plan is to cut them down to 16 1/2" OA length for the Micro 355 I recently acquired..

I'm not sure of the bare shaft grains per inch or inside dia for both brass inserts ( 92 or heavier if needed ) and Ignitor nocks ?

I'm planning to use my Montec 125 G5's or SlickTrick 125 Magnums at hopefully a total weight of 400-425 grains if possible ? All ideas or recipies happily accepted. :D

Thanks Gene

Trust me l have looked far and wide for 2216 brass inserts. Aparently horton made them at one time . I have been putting a weighted extra insert behind the original it gets you an extra 53 grains along with the front 30 grains its 83 total grains. You have to patiently grind the shoulder off the weighted one so it can go first. These things are heavy hitters l shot right thru a buck lengthwise. Let me see lf l can come up with a picture. (Make sure you epoxy the extra insert in obviously ).These heavy shafts fly really really good when you start sdding some weight up front ....same thing we do with our carbons.

A heavy head like a 175 foc or the stupidity discontinued slick trick 175 is perfect for these bolts if you dont want the insert bs.

Easton 2216s list out as being 12.0 GPI, the Easton RPS aluminum inserts are 31.0 grains each. So 16.5 Inches*12.0 GPI is 198 grains and then add the 31.0 grains for the front insert gets you to 229 grains. Add the weight of the Ignitor rear nock (36 grains?) will get you to 265 grains. Add on the 125 grains for the broadhead and you get up to 390 grains. You also get to add in the weight of the 3 vanes or feathers. If you go with Blazer vanes those are running 6 grains each for an additional 18 grains, this brings you up to 408 grains. Throw in a few additional grains for adhesive on the vanes, front insert, and rear insert and you should be pretty close to the weight range you were looking for. The aluminum shafts are nice in that you can square them up using a Lee rifle cutter and an appropriately sized case trimming insert. Easton also made carbon composite inserts that were black and were lighter weight that were usually installed in the rear. I have only been able to find these occasionally on ebay as they are getting rarer.

You may be able to get 2 bolts per shaft at that length if they are full length to start.

I may try the standard alum inserts with 150gn. "BAT" style Bolt Cutters then as I have a few new ones on hand. Thanks guys for all of the great ideas.
