Trigger tech

Post by Opey »

I have a Matrix 405 that I love to shoot and I'm working on getting it to as close to zero as possible. The only thing I think I can do now is to add a trigger tech to her. I have read a ton of positive comments on trigger tech but I have also read the 405 trigger is better than average. So is it worth it for my 405?

TT triggers are smooth, light, and have a nice break. But they also have issues with the claws bouncing back shut after the shot, and there was a thread here recently about how the case metal is pretty soft so the scope rail screws are easily stripped out. I've also noticed that the serving separates on my TT-equipped bow a little faster... maybe their trigger claws are a hair narrower?

Personally, I probably won't buy another TT. They've had years to get things perfect and haven't done so. For a $150 after-market trigger, I would expect nothing short of perfection. I'm not trying to take anything away from them or bad-mouth them... I think they have a good idea I just don't think it's worth it. Especially since a lot of the Excal triggers are quite good as they come from the factory and the other ones that are gritty/creepy can probably be polished up to be nearly as good (or even as good) as a TT.

Just my opinions. Best of luck!

Thanks. They are a bit pricey.

I have been running their triggers in my bows since they started.
VERY Impressed, I find them as good or better than the high end competition triggers in my finer rifles.

I will not be running a bow without one. Leaps & Bounds better than any stock trigger I have ever tried.

Cheers,
Nog

I’m going to give it another year. I’ll look at them again in the spring. Thanks for the response.

I am having the trigger latch issue. But I called tell the difference in my trigger technique, when I slap the trigger it happened. When I don't it doesn't. So it's almost a training aid . Also for what it's worth to reset the trigger it's not a game changer for me, an inconvenience yes, but a problem no . The trigger itself is so much better, and if you pull the trigger like you are supposed to it doesn't do it. Haha go figure right?

My TT experience is the same as yours janesy... if I follow through with the trigger pull I don't have issues with the latches bouncing back shut. My opinion though is that the trigger should be designed well enough to not have this issue no matter what. I'ver never heard of an Excal trigger bouncing back shut, nor a Middleton sniper trigger (which I also have and think is a better design than the TT).

I originally had a TT trigger that would bounce shut when I was using the rope cocker to de-cock the crossbow! I sent it in and they fixed that issue, but there was a recent thread here about that very same thing happening to someone else. So my conclusion is that they haven't really fixed their design properly and are just fixing individual triggers as people complain. Not the way I'd go about things for such a premium price.

You're not wrong in your thinking. In fact after the season is done I'll probably address it and find out exactly what the circumstances are that it happens for me. And talk it out with TT. Until then I don't mind.
It would however be a problem if it bounced on a decock that would be a pain in the ass.

I was very unhappy with the trigger on my Matrix 310 but was encouraged to shoot it a while and see if it gets better... it didn't. I finally ordered myself a TT and am thoroughly impressed. I follow through on each trigger squeeze and have never had a problem with the latches bouncing back. I have since sent the original trigger in for polishing, but have never installed it yet so I can't tell you what it is like after being reworked. My thinking is that maybe on the bigger bows the latches may be bouncing back due to the higher speed??

It has nothing to do with bow weight. I have beyond the factory heavy hitters and this has never been an issue. The slamming shut jaws being described can result from tapping the trigger on the shot rather than squeezing the trigger.
As I've said, the TT triggers are amazing!....as long as they're functional and you read the Boocustomstrings website directions on how to polish trigger latches then take a couple hours to do it. I've had five TT triggers and every one has chewed up my center serving immediately. Even my latest Frankenbow, which draws like a Vixen and is holding far less weight than a Vixen, hasn't made fifty shots and chewed up serving. I'm not talking separation, I'm talking about cut strands. Imo, not okay.

i do like the trigger techs but... ive had my latch auto reset trying to be aware of follow thru with a little more than tapping. i suppose if you squeeze it like shooting a shotgun and glue your finger the whole ride it would stop any bouncing and resetting.ive owned sold off about a dozen Trigger techs and been lucky. never had serving issues but i dont shoot more than 100 or so shots between off season shooting and hunting season.my Excaliburs are boring to shoot there so accurate.
