BD380-Limb upgrade to BD400. Possible?

Post by GROOTSKY »

I found a splinter on the left limb of my BD380, I contacted Excalibur & I'm sure warranty won't be a problem. If I wanted to bypass the warranty does anyone if a set of BD400 limbs could be installed in it's place? Thanks

All BD and Matrix limbs are the same , yes a BD limb set will be fine.

I believe the Matrix limbs are different, or are the BD limbs just more swept back. I thought that maybe the BD400 limbs were just a bit stiffer than the BD380 giving it the extra speed.

Power stroke gets the FPS, not the limbs. BD risers are all swept back more than a standard matrix, but no, you can’t get there with a different riser and limb combo. If you want 400 you need a longer mainframe and I you want a BD that actually shoots 400fps you’d need a mainframe even longer than the current BD400 because it’s closer to 380fps anyway.

The way I read it, he was asking if he can use BD400 limbs on his BD 380. Maybe he has a spare set of limbs handy from BD400. He didn't mention building a BD400, that would be a different story.

The riser angle determines the difference between the BD and Matrix, not the limbs, they are the same.
Next, string stroke or mainframe length as RUP mentioned determines speed as well.

I thought I could upgrade by just swapping limbs. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I see there is a number under the mounting portion of the limb, do limbs need to be swapped in sets to keep things equal?

I'd like to mount an original a Matrix riser/limbs on a BD400. Think they discourage that as the bolt holes are different. Still, I think a BD410-415 would result. With the 410-415 being more representative of the true speed.
