questions about a new scope

I realize this a "ford vs chevy" topic but i'm looking to gift a scope upgrade (from a dead zone, i believe) on a 335 and am leaning towards a hawke pro. I guess I like the illuminated reticle. Is that really an important factor? Would I also need to buy different rings or will the excal ones work on the Hawke?
My other choice is the Nikon Bolt which isn't illuminated and, from what i read, doesn't have reticle marks that line up 20/30/40 etc unless you are at 305 fps with a certain weight bolt. Again, do I need to buy new rings to mount the Nikon? Appreciate any info you guys can offer.

Goose l have a nikon bolt on my matrix 330 lm guessing it shoots around 310 fps with a 400ish grain hunting bolt like your bow will.
Im reallly not seeing any change in the hash marks until 50 yards it seems to shoot a little high at 50. .l dont shoot past 40 yards so l dont really care.But sighted in a 20 yards the marks are dead on. The scope still takes the same one inch rings. If l was upgrading the scope anyway l would definitely put a better ring set on it anyway no matter what scope l chose.luepold,burris weaver,all good stuff. Yes the bolt is not adjustable but on a 330 fps bow its really not a buying factor in my opinion. If it were a 350 or up l would get something adjustable.

X2! The rings are 1" medium height. You can shoot pretty good once the 20 is set as LBJ said. I like mine a lot.

I like my Hawke SR very much. Good glass and an illuminated reticle which to me is very important. Thebest thing is that the illumination is infiniitly adjustable so you can turn on just what you need. It's bright enough to use in full daylight, or you can turn it on to it's very lowest setting for those moments before sunrise and after sunset. It also has adjustable magnifcation so you can adjust the reticle to your setup.

Natchez Shooters Supply has Leupold VX-I 2-7x33 duplex reticle on sale for $167.99. Cant go wrong at that ,Super scope for the $.

Robertyb, how do you like the xv530ir? I just picked one up myself from eBay and it’s on its way. Curious how it performs in low light. I’ve heard good things.

I like mine. It sighted in well and has good glass in it. I can't tell any difference between the Hawke and the TR except for the little half moon on the main crosshair.

I just got home from deer camp and mine was on my porch. Clarity is awesome. Hopefully get it mounted up and sighted in so I can do some low light testing tonight. Seems like a great scope for under $150.

I appreciate all the advice i received from you guys & have been looking online for sales on all the scopes mentioned above. the only one that has come down for black friday etc is the trophy ridge. focus camera has it for $149 again thru a number of online sites. anyway i ordered one through amazon because they had the best shipping. thanks for the help.

I have an XB30pro on one of my set ups. Everything else I own has leupold crossbones on them . To be brutally honest the hawke scope leaves a lot to be desired in a high priced scope. Optics quality is like looking through a fishbowl with crosshairs. The reticle is way too busy with more hash marks then is ever needed for a crossbow scope. I really hope zeiss and leupold enter the crossbow scope market again.

the new parker pinpoint red hot 3x scope has kinda peeked my interest . I like the idea of a single dot illuminated that just dials the top turret after you range find the deer .

I use the tru glow 4 dot crossbow scope now but after having weather related problems - like snow filling the front and rear viewing spaces --and rain making the screen a mess so hard to even see dots . using tissue to dry out the scope areas so I could see the dots . I basically learned I need a hood while walking in rain or snowy tree country etc.

well, guess i've heard that complaint before. if it holds for all hawke scopes & not just an occasional "lemon" we can always return it. i don't think $149 is a top end, high quality price like those on the xb30 or crossbones. i passed on the bolt because it is not illuminated & had lil circles on the reticle. Could have gotten it for $129 and that deal will come around again. anyway, after #1 son's birthday he can decide to keep it or figure out what he wants to replace it with.
