EX Micro Suppressor w/ Quill Illuminated Bolts help!

Post by profiler »

Setup: New standard Excalibur Micro Suppressor with stock 3 arrows w/ 150g field points. Dialed in all scope yardages and was very confident up to 60 yards. Purchased the Quill illuminated bolts and 150g Excalibur Boltcutter BAT as the broadhead. Everything should be the same weights and length.
NOTE: did not shoot these arrows prior to a hunt. 1st mistake.

Friday night, a nice buck was standing 50 yards away broadside. I was braced in a shooting house and pulled the trigger. BOOM, bow rattles my jaw and dazes me, and arrow is laying out in the field about 25 yards away with the illumination working perfectly. I initially thought the bow had failed. After inspection, nothing looked out of place, no stress or cracks that I can determine. I pack up and go home.

Next morning, I try another Quill illuminated arrow at a target with same results, although not quite as loud a boom. Never even came near the target.
It's almost like a mini or half dry fire.

So I put the Boltcutter on the factory bolt that came with the bow, and took a shot. Works perfectly.

What the heck? There should be no difference unless there is a significant weight issue eh? Any other suggestions? I really want an illuminated nock. Do you think I've done any damage to the bow? It really significantly louder now than when I had previously been shooting it.

No rush as gun season is starting, but I'd like to get it adjusted. Just have a hankering to take one down with it this year.

Yes, all that was verified the 2nd time. Can't say much about the initial shot.

Did the quills happen to come with moon nocks instead of flat nocks ?

Only way to tell if your done any damage is to remove and thoroughly inspected the limbs. Are all the rubber little pads still in place?

How far out are you pulling your luminock? They should be out just enough to shut it off after its been fired before
If it's out to far you are self initiating a partial dry fire. And perhaps your string is rolling over the luminock

Just reread, unfired luminock equipt quill. Did you fire it right out of the package?

Yes, right out of the packaging. I didn't think about the string rolling over the top of the lumonok. That makes sense.

Right out of the box is probably the issue. The luminock has to set 1/8" or whatever before the arrow moves
