1 and 2 while hunting

after seeing the mock scrape posts , I thought this is the appropriate time to discuss the relief of oneself while hunting.

No matter when where or how you hunt sooner or later you got to go.

The main issue is - will it spook the animals you hunt ?

I don't want to hear what you read or what you were told . Just from your own personal experience.

I don't worry much anymore - if ya gotta go -you gotta go. I've taken the bottles up in a tree or have one in a blind - the only problem - if you brought one big enough for a full days hunt. If in a blind or still hunting , I usually try to kick a small area of vegetation and drop a few drops of doe in heat after recovering the spot once I finish . The getting up and down out a tree stand isn't much fun either during prime shooting hrs. and how far away from tree etc. I've been to tree stands where a funnel was fixed in the corner and a hose was attached down the tree and the end buried.

Does it spook game animals- yes- and no - I've peed in scrapes and seen deer use them - I've peed in scrapes and had deer stop snort turn flee.
I've climbed down from stands 1-2 a little ways off -use the doe in heat application and have deer actually bed - almost in the spot. In the majority of my experience . I don't think it matters a lot. Everything out there - goes in the woods!

Now it's even harder where I normally hunt in the deserts - , you aint digging no hole in the granite mtn side - looking for a sandy wash or stream bed has its advantages!

Man let it rip, I've killed many a deer after taking a pee. Its been my experience that deer do not recognize humane urine. Others may say different, but my experience has been letting it go is not a problem.

Last year I got hit when parking my truck and and ran across the road and took a dump and peed about 15 yards in the woods. Later after hunting I was unloading all my gear back at the truck and saw two does and a small spike coming off a ridge in my direction so I got in the truck and watched as they were heading right for where I took the dump. They walked by it and stared at my truck for a minute or so and then simply ambled on by. None of the three paid any attention to where I had gone even though they walked within a few feet of it. They were only curious about the truck.

I have peed in scrapes and at stand and have seen on reaction.

I was on a hunt in Texas years ago and my friend climbed out of his stand to go pee. He's stripping away layers and is about to do his business and hears crunching on the road...animal walking. He freezes, bends down, grabs his bow and nocks an arrow just as a Texas Dall Sheep comes walking by with no idea he's there. He shot that ram with his pants fallen around his ankles....and made a perfect double lung hit. So, as I see it, going in the woods may actually increase your success. ....true story.

i stop carrying bottles years ago true story this year on a bear hunt had to take a pee i was on a big platform stand took a pee off the back off the stand a couple hours later had to go again (getting old sucks) so pee off the front of the stand bear comes in walks by the bait walks under my stand sniffs around walks back to the bait end of story end of bear----that was june bear rut time

While I prefer not to have to squat while hunting I have had to on many occasions and usually have not noticed any change in activity in game animals. Peeing is a different story all together.

The first time I had to pee while bear hunting while in an tree stand I actually had a bear come to the tree sniff it and start to climb up following the
urine scent. the bear got to about 6"-12" below my feet and was actually sniffing my boots(I was sitting on the wooden tree stand with my feet hanging off it)! needless to my heart was racing. I ended up pointing my shotgun right at his head about 10" away and he got the hint and took off, but I was shaking so much I could not have fired at him and expect to hit him so he was lucky. I still ended up getting a small bear the same day.

During deer season I notice that deer seem attracted to places where I have peed and they even have created scrapes at some of those spots if they were suitable for a scrape. after I noticed that I started peeing at my mock scrapes and using buck scent too and the deer will actually start using the mock scrapes or at least investigate them regularly.

I wizz all over my stands no ill effects gave up the pee bottle 10 years ago . I always use doe p quite liberally maby it counter reacts. Ohh well it works. Dont fear the whizz. I heard stories of hunters giving up meat during the season to emit a vegi odor ....what morons.

Been hunting 40 + years never had 1 or 2 effect my hunting area in a negative way. I regularly pee from my stand and have bucks and does around and under my stand all day. Let it rip !

Wow pooping out of a climber. Been there done that. You definitely want to work your way around the tree and utilize the other side of the tree on the way down .lolo.

Years & years ago I saw a show on public TV called Fred Trosts Michigan Outdoors. This was way before cable TV. Fred set out four spots near a bait pile. He put his own urine, ammonia, Tinks 69, and aftershave in the spots. He had eaten steak for the last two days & washed it down w beer. The deer avoided almost all but came into Fred’s pee. It made an impression on me and I have always poured the contents of my pee bottles collected while on stand onto a real or mock scrape. I cannot count the number of deer that I have seen use those scrapes. I have killed a fair amount of bucks while hitting those scrapes as well.

As for #2 I try to not have that be an issue, but as we all know, if you hunt enough, you will get hit by the dreaded Code Brown while on stand. I do not hunt out of a climber so I clamber down & try to go as far away as possible.
