Post by MCA »

hi guys, I picked up an all black vixen, great shape carved tip limbs, for $170, did I do well?sorry having touble posting pics,
can some of you veteran crossbowmen date this bow? it does not have the groove for the rope cocking aid. so I am using the butt stock, is that ok?
thanks so much.

Great deal for that 90's model. Those models are easy (for me anyway) to cock and un-cock using your fingers only. Adding your own rope cocking groove only takes minutes with a small diameter file if you don't mind modifying Vix.

thanks Guys, do you think there would be too much stress on the stock, did not want to modify it.

I think you did fine on the price any Excalibur under $200 in decent shape you can not go wrong in my mind.
And I think the older models have a lot of charm that the new ones do not have.
I would just keep shots at game under 30 yards and you have a fine hunting bow.

I have an old Excal catalog from the 90es with a carved tip vixen in it and speed is rated at 260 fps / 150 lb draw / 14 in power stroke.
If you need a string for it be sure to get one for the carved tip limbs Danny miller has them I am sure.

Also, you can upgrade it by contacting Excalibur about getting some magtip limbs for it. I think that's a fine deal.

This black Vixen talk got my attention...with a Matrix riser and blackout limbs you’d have a screamer! It’s got that perfect rail length.

No stress worries by cutting/filing a shallow rope cocker groove into the 90's model stocks, numerous forum members have done that modification in the past. You can find photos using the search feature if you wish.

I did this on my Exocet 165 , just use a chainsaw file , doesn't have to be deep

thanks guys, I do not mined using the butt, just concerned if it will cause undue stress in that area, would not think so but wanted your expert opinion, thanks again.

just to clarify, are you referring to cut the grove in the butt or just behind the trigger unit? like normal

ah yes the Black Vixen!

I have had a few. It's a sweet shooter that will kill deer all day long. Good find!!
