Best add-ons for Grizz2?

Post by Jcotrel1 »

Hey guys,

What after market additions would you recommend for the Grizz2? I’d like to quiet it down a bit but don’t want to waste money on stuff I don’t need. I also may change the scope to a 4x. I think I saw a Truglo with full BDC cross hairs that I like. My eyes aren’t ass good as they used to be.

Thanks!
Jim

I have had a few deer voice themselves when hit with an arrow, but I have yet to hear one complain about the noise.
Talk to one of the many string makers here about a custom string that will help quiet your Grizz down a bit. But you will give up a few fps.
Excalibur does have add-ons to help quiet it down a bit. And a cheap pair of earplugs works wonders.

I would get a Flemish String, Danny Miller bumpers, and I would look for a better scope. For $44.99 plus shipping you can get a Bushnell Trophy XLT Crossbow scope that is excellent. I picked one up and with shipping and a donation to the NRA it was $63 total. Good luck with the new Excalibur!

Also if you haven’t already done it you can put shrink tubing on the arrow retaining clip and wrap the stirrup with rubber tape like used to cover electric line splices. These will help deaden the “twang” after the shot.

Only my opinion but stay away from any tru glo scope .ln my experience their scopes and red dots are "tru poop"buy a leupold ,nikon, hawk or anything instead. The factory excal scope is better than anything they make

To the original poster, I suggest buying the best scope that your wallet can afford if you wish to upgrade your scope.
Be aware of the high price of the lowest cost optics.

The Excalibur TactZone is a nice scope, and the Hawke XB30 PRO SR is a very nice scope.. and both have a lifetime warranty.

I don't see the need to change much on Excaliburs from the way they come out of the box.
Some people are critical of the standard scopes, but I have nothing to complain about on the two I have. They were easy to sight in, have comfortable eye relief and their clarity is more than adequate at crossbow ranges. While the bows are not silent, I've yet to have a deer "jump the string" and I have killed quite a few with my Excals. The only crossbow related purchases I have made are spare strings (thanks, Vixenmaster) and when I needed more arrows I went to Black Eagles because their heavier inserts make them more versatile (the Firebolts and Diablos were just fine though) . Spend your money on a good bottle of scotch or a new deerstand and leave your Excal alone. The replaced parts won't get you one more deer in all of the years you will hunt with it.

Well said grouse....l wish l didnt have the modification disease. Yes all of my bows stock were all way better than competitors models . I guess if l weren't modifying stuff l would just be getting in trouble like some of my other friends.

I understand the satisfaction of personalizing your equipment. Several times I have purchased rod blanks and components and built fishing rods that were no better (but uglier and more expensive) than factory rods. I still loved those rods.

I'd upgrade the scope rings. The factory supplied ones leave a lot to be desired.

I have a GRZ2 and the only modifications I made was to wrap the stirrup in rubber tape, add some homemade limb silencers made from an old bicycle inner tube, and add one of Vixenmaster's flemish strings. I really like Grouse's comments above.

There is a Leupold 2-7x scope on the trading post for $135. A Steal! Would be a great upgrade. Jmho
