I’m not liking my new Zombie Slayers

We were using the Excalibar firebolts ever since we got the axiom. When we were down to the last two or three Dad bought zombie slayer’s. We are using the same sonic bolt 150 grain broadhead. With the fire bolt we have had complete pass-throughs on all sorts of deer and several hogs and some other exotic animals. Most everything was shot between 20 and 30 yards. Now with the zombie slayer‘s Dad had two different deer where the arrow did not exit and I have had two deer where the arrow did not exit. Also and all four of these cases when the deer fell or rolled the arrow broke off. The range has been 20 yards. I’m not sure why these zombie slayer’s are doing this but if anybody has some ideas let me know please because I would like to talk to Dad about going back to firebolts or trying something else altogether.

Have you checked grain weight and FOC on your ZS compared to the Firebolts. Seems like it it would be something else other than the arrow.

My take is Zombies plus your 150 gr broadhead weigh considerably more than your old arrow. So your speed has dropped 20-30 fops (zombies have a brass insert up front). Try dropping down to a 100grn broad head and you should be where you want.

I totally agree. ZSs are much much better arrows.

Firebolt with 150 head = 428.4
Zombie Slayer with 150 head = 469.5
Would that explain it?

With a sharp broadhead like your cut on contact Sonics, any of the Excalibur hunting bows should have no issues zipping an arrow through any whitetail at 20 yards. Every shot on a deer is different. Look at the deer for clues about what happened to the arrow.

Even my slow Vixen always had clean passthrough shots if I placed the arrow where it should go.. Lol

I also own an Axiom and used it to kill deer every season from when I bought it (2012) until this season when I bought a 350SE. When I used I used firebolts with 150 gr. heads I had pass through shots on deer When I switched to Zombie slayers I used both 125 and 150 gr. heads I continued to put arrows right through deer. I have had one deer with each type of arrow where the arrow exited at the opposite shoulder and didn't pass completely through. In each of the cases where I hit the opposite shoulder the deer dropped quickly but the arrow did break. Boo is probably leading you in the right direction when he says to look at where you hit your quarry.

One further comment. I didn't notice much difference at 20 yards when I shot Zombie Slayers at a target with either 125 or 150 gr. heads with my Axiom. The point of impact hardly moved.

Yep, totally agree on what Boo said. Too many folks having great success with the Zombie Slayers. I would follow Don's advice.

It’s definitely not the arrow’s fault...there is very little comparison to be made between any Excalibur branded arrow and a BE product. If anything the heavier arrow should get more penetration so if it is not giving you that, it’s about your shot placement.

On the other note the zombie is just a stronger arrow. When you heat a zombie up with a fieldpoint in to remove a insert it stays together. A fire bolt will get all crumbly. Ive shot both no comparison as far as toughness. The firebolts got a alluminum insert. Zombies got a brass. You can easily adjust the weight issues with the proper insert.use what you have confidence in its that simple.
