Old, new guy to the forum! Live in East Central Ohio. Been in archery for 60 years. Mostly Longbows through the years. Began tinkering in crossbows since 1980, and recently turned to the crossbow because of shoulder issues about 3 years ago. I own a couple Excalibur's and found this new cocking device that I thought a lot of you might be interested in. I think it will help me a lot, because the 280# suppressor will now only require about 92# to cock rather than the 140# with my stock hand cocker. It has a 3:1 pulley system which reduces the effort by 67%. Check it out at Black Heart Archery, bypass cocking device. MSRP $49.99 (patent pending) Available in March. They told me it was designed for all crossbows, but with the Excal's in mind because of the higher poundage pull. As soon as I can get one, I will be testing it, and will post my comments on it. I prefer not to use a crank cocker, so I'm hoping this works out!

Looks like a great alternative to a crank as long as the length you have to pull back is not longer than a normal cocking rope ,I am vertically challenged and long draw lengths are an issue.

From my limited knowledge of pulley systems the traditional style of cocking rope is a 2:1 mechanical advantage and a 2:1 ratio of distance required to move the object (string). (to move the string 1" requires you move the rope 2")
A 3:1 mechanical advantage would require a 3:1 ratio of distance required to move the object. (to move the string 1" you would have to move the rope 3")

Some of the newest models with much less "draw length" might not be unreasonable, but the old models would be a challenge!

Looking at the design I doubt that you can use this style cocking rope to decock a bow with. The ropes going thru each set of pulleys work independent of each other so you can't take all the slack up on one side to decock as you do with a regular rope cocker.

It also appears that there could be issues with drawing the string back evenly because the ropes that are connected to the string are independent from each other?

I realize that some people are older /injured etc. , lm not talking about them at all but..............lf the other majority would stop trying to be macho man and shoot a bow that they cant honestly pull back we would not have a such a problem !! Ohh l can see the feedback on this one.....bring it on.

Everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to do, but I see Longbow Joe's point. I'm 6'2" and in good shape so I can easily cock my 350SE, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back to my Axiom if I found it difficult to rope cock my 350. The Indians used straight bows with draw weights between 30 - 35 lbs. and shot sharpened rocks on the end of the straightest stick they could find. They managed to kill bison and grizzly bears with their equipment. Any Excal hunting bow is capable of making lethal shots at reasonable ranges. All things being equal, I like more speed, but my Axiom put arrows right through deer at 35 yards, so the extra speed probably isn't going to get me any more deer if I stick to my self imposed 40 yard maximum range. Keeping it simple is more important to me so I want to avoid the extra hassle and weight of a crank.

I talked to one of the engineers that helped design the new handcocking device today. He told me it was mainly designed for the Micro series crossbows. He also told me the difference between the 2:1 and 3:1 was that it was definitely easier with the 3:1 but hardly noticeable with the distance you have to pull. You were correct, it cannot be used to de-cock the Excalibur Xbow. You would have to carry your original rope to de-cock.
