Is anyone out there using WOOD ARROWS ?
Been using wood arrows for the last 3 years with great results. A lot of work, but 6 deer down, all pass thru's. Average distance to recovery 30 yards. Distance of shots 12 to 30 yards, all from natural ground hideouts.

Been building custom wood arrows for over 30 years. Years ago i tested them on Barnett Wild Cats, Jennings Devestator, early X-Cals, Exo-mag and in the last three years, Micro 335. Have done more testing then probably anyone else for strength. My Picture to the right showing 4 arrows in the 2 1/2" circle from 30 yards, sitting in my chair, resting on my knee.

Nice shooting. I'm into carbon arrows for many reasons, but the wooden arrows have proven to be do well when made correctly. My neighbor uses cedar arrows that he makes for his old long bow. I'm leery about their strength for crossbows however. Glad they work for you.

I want to make this clear; I do not use cedar or any North American woods because they would not be strong enough or high enough spine. Do not use wood if you do not know what you are doing. The woods I use are high spine, high strength, with an interlocking grain, and also have physical weight, which makes it easier on my bow limbs.

What wood(s) do you use?
I used to shoot ash shafts when I used a longbow.
Almost indestructible, but a PITA to try to straighten & keep straight.

Okay, I'm just going to say it and not dance around the truth. Shooting wooden shafts from our modern crossbows is foolish. Period! You can't test the structural integrity of the wooden arrows and you're playing Russian roulette by using them. I have no understanding why you would even consider and I don't support even planting this seed in someone's mind. Anyone reading this, DON'T DO IT!
