Finally Out Priced.

Post by Shotnbeer »

I'm sorry but the outdoor hunting and fishing world has finally reached a point were I can't afford their stuff any more. The good news is why buy the new stuff when the stuff I/you have will do just as well or better than all the new bells and whistles. Sure it all looks great but can you really believe paying over $1000 and a lot more for a crossbow or a deer rifle. Look at what a # 1 or # 2 jump trap costs. How can a kid start out like we did having to pay today's prices? I know I saved for the stuff I bought but it might take a kid a lot longer now.
Sorry my rant for today. I have to quit looking at sporting good catalogs.

My last 2 Excaliburs were bought used. All of my arrows were the factory fletched Spynal Tapps that I de-fletched, spine indexed, cut and squared and constructed. Still cost quite a bit, but at least I feel like I saved a little. I occasionally get a wild hair and want something like the fastest Scorpyd of one of the new 10-Pts, but I get over it. Just shooting one or more of my Excaliburs gets me through it. :D

The good news is that Excaliburs will last a couple of generations and we do not have to buy the flagship model of anything! I've never bought a flag ship anything until last year and that was a truck. No one has to buy the flagship of any manufacturer.
Let's face it, the lowliest Excalibur hunting bow does everything we want it for with the exception of the biggest animals that roam NA. Hell, if life were to suck and I could only have one bow, it would be something reasonable that comes in at a reasonable price. A 330 or a 308 would easily keep me happy. I know they do what I need them to do.
One things for sure, at 64 yrs of age, I hope to completely retire soon and my expectations will change with that. One of my customers, who always seemed happy, said something I carried with me since I heard it. "Happiness is all about managing your expectations".

I'm sure your 330 will handle anything in North America short of big bears. The Exomax's power is certainly plenty. After Bill killing an elephant and hearing from Danny that the offside leg is what stopped the arrow from having a pass through  I'm pretty sure it's more than we need hear in NA. This picture always kills me! That's some bigazz moose taken with a Vixen!

I get the new crossbow itch now and then. Can easily afford one but decided I just need to shoot my Exomax more. If I spend my available shooting time on it I will just get more proficient with it. Do plan on buying a spare set of limbs even though I may never need them. I don’t think they will be available forever or at least as long as I plan to hunt with the Exomax.
