Ahh, the pleasant smell of crossbow being fired is in the air!

Ahh, the pleasant smell of crossbow being fired is in the air!
I've only shot a few different Excalibur Micro's over the recent years and so I'm not sure if the wheeled bows create the same fired aroma, but the Micro's all leave a distinct smell in the air at the shot. So what do you guys think that smell comes from, the type of string material used or maybe hot string wax? Or something else? Does the aroma change if an aftermarket string with a different type of material is used? Inquiring minds want to know!

I still get the smell with plastic nocks. I always thought it was string friction down the rail

I polished the top of the rail last night to stop any serving wear and cut down on friction, but friction and heat is obviously still there. I'll give her the 'ol sniff test...longbow joe wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 9:02 amI still get the smell with plastic nocks. I always thought it was string friction down the rail

If I have to shoot factory arrows, I use a file to chamfer the rear nock at a slight angle so that the nock no longer contacts the mainframe.janesy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 11:03 amInteresting, I only get the smell with the one factory arrow I own that I use for testinglongbow joe wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 9:02 amI still get the smell with plastic nocks. So is it the aluminum on aluminum contact?
My matrix was bad for it, my gen1 335 rail(315 now)does it once in a blue moon over the chrony.
My gen 2 rail I dont shoot factory arrows from anymore perios, so i dont remember it ever doing it
