Wisconsin Crossbow Trial time frame ending

Three years ago WI enacted a 3 year "trial" period to use crossbows during the overlapping "bow" season.

The timeframe to review that is coming up.

I have heard from knowledgeable sources (don't ask me what or who because I cannot reveal that) that there will be a move afoot to somehow restrict or limit the crossbow season moving forward beginning in the year or so, because registration numbers show a higher rate of crossbow success. (In WI you have to declare whether it was a "bow" kill or a crossbow kill for those tracking purposes).

So, all you WI guys pay attention to this issue if it comes up and write/call your representatives if necessary.

I have had some debates about this already with some of the people lobbying against the crossbows. I told them to turn in their compounds with 85% let off, fancy sights, stabilizers, releases, drop away rests, carbon arrows, and expandable heads, treestands, and grab their stick bow and hunt like the old days. They refuse to listen to supporting each other and refuse to stand united! All they care about is themselves and that division will prove to be everyone's downfall in this state.

I will be following this closely too as I live & hunt in WI! But thank God that Walker is ready to step in and squash all attempts by the WBH! Scott is for & supports crossbow hunters whether abled body, child, elderly or disabled! We now have to wait and fight again if it comes down to that!

Make sure you go to the DNR spring hearings in your area and vote.

Do the statistics show or dont show that many hunters simply "moved over" to the crossbow instead ? Once again would them extra deer just be killed in gun season with a more dangerous weapon? Bunch of crap !

Mo. has done the same thing this yr. You declare the kill as Bow or Crossbow, lots of the so called Bowhunters are still raisin hob n want the crossbows repealed

in one county alone they give out 4 does tags for every licensed hunter regardless of the season -- that's not including special youth hunts

The most bonus tags in any zone per weapon license is a maximum of 2. Nobody got 4 doe tags with one license!

I believe RICHLAND county did give out 4. At least that is how i read the regulations book! Page 14

Your allowed to buy 1 bonus anterless tag per day per hunter. That 4 represents the maximum number of tags 1 hunter can get if they are still available! There’s a difference between tags that come with a license and bonus tags.

Are they just talking about limiting the season or are they talking about shortening the amount of time a crossbow can be used during bow season. Either way its a joke theres way more deer in wisconsin than we need and fewer kids are hunting now days less and less every year. Deer kills are on par for all previous years it just doesnt make any sense to me. I live in Wisconsin and hunt here id rather have a crossbow in my area than a rifle.
