Been shooting in between snow and rain

Post by ChrisK »

The weather has been all over the place since I bought my crossbow. When the weather allows I have been shooting. I have been practicing with my Slick Trick SS Standards.
I have a bog pod that I was shooting from today. Sometimes I think in the standing position shooting a compound is a little easier for me. Shooting with the rest does make it easier. I need to set up my climber and try it out in that and I also want to try it in my 12ft tripod. I have a feeling cocking it in either stand will be difficult.
I am liking it a little more each time I take it out. Most of my practice has been at 20-30 yards. I need to do more at 40 yards. Still thinking its best to keep most shots at deer in the 20-30 yard range. Still keeping an open mind about the crossbow and know I have lots more to know thats only going to come by real experience.

Where are you from? I'm in Indiana, and we have several Public Hunting areas that have elevated shooting platforms on their archery ranges. I would look for one nearby. If you really think you'll be in position to cock your crossbow in the stand, get a crank, or Dr. Stirrup to make that much easier for you. Just to confirm most folks worries, I shoot, and set my scopes from the ground, then shoot from 18' platforms and find very little change in POI with the crossbows. Not true with the vertical bows, and i find body attitude to be the difference there. JMHO!

Good Luck, and I'm glad to read that you're checking this for yourself! Goes a long way bud!

I live outside of Rockville. I was born in Terre Haute, moved to Montezuma when I met my wife, moved to Ferdinand for a few years then wife got home sick and we moved back to Parke Co.

Another Hoosier! You're about 2 hours South of me. Jasper Pulaski has a nice archery range, and gun range. Free I might add. About an hour & a half for you!

I've found that pulling my knee up towards my chest and leaning back in the treestand I can easily cock my 350se by holding string Cocker handles against my chest and pushing out with my leg. Leg muscles have much more usable strength than back
