Buddies bag moose in the NEK

Post by Guest »

As I mentioned on another moose post, a couple of friends (they're brothers) were drawn for a moose permit. They filled it on Tuesday.

31" bull that dressed out at 532 lbs. Should be good eating. It's already boned out, but needs to be cut and packaged in the morning. YUM!!!! 8)
I'll try to get a pic or two for the forum.

Way to go!!! Was that 532 pounds field dressed or deboned? 532 pounds seems lite for a 31" bull moose.

That be the field dressed weight, not boned out weight.
When they reported it, the state biologist attending made mention that the rack was somewhat large for the small body weight.

Remember, these are little Vermont moose, not the giant Ontario quarter-horse-like moose.

Actually,..we have some medium moose here. To date, the heaviest (clean dressed) bull reported is 1040 lbs (1996). And the largest rack is a 63" 19 pointer taken last year. :)
The true giant moose are in Alaska. We're talking something like 1800 pounders.

I'll get pics, hopefully soon.

Last night I had a bull moose come out in front of me along a logging road---only 15 yds away me.

It wasn't walking really fast but it was basically coming through like a freight train.

Holy crap those things are big!
