My first crossbow harvest.
I have been working seven days a week 10 hours a day for the last three months, so I haven't had the chance to take to the woods. Thursday, I took a vacation day. I had worked all night Wed night and got home around 4am Thurs morning. I was not particularly tired, so I watched a little TV. Next thing I knew it was daylight and I was not the least bit sleepy. So, despite it being pretty hot I decided to go sit in my portable on a big acorn flat on my property.
As I got there, which was a tad after daylight I saw a group of does leaving the area in a hurry. Crap I thought, I guess it's over. I decided to get into my stand anyway. About 30 minutes into it, I nodded off. I rarely do this, but I had worked all night so I was getting tired. About every 10 minutes I would open my eyes and take a look. About the third time I did, I opened my eyes and saw two nice 8 points about 40 yards from my tree. So I got the crossbow ready, and within 10 minutes they had made their way to within 15 yards of my tree. I settled my sights right behind the bigger ones shoulder. As I sighted in he looked straight up at me. He didn't get his eyes focused good before the bolt was on the way. The last I saw of it, it was burying itself behind his shoulder. The deer never made it out of sight. I never found the bolt, I guess it went straight through and buried into the ground.
Score another one for the ExoMax.

Hey 2573,
The first one was really sweet. Sounds like a really good stand location. Next time see if you can have UPS deliver him to the door. Usually it goes one of two ways for the first xbow harvest. Really hard and you have to work your butt off for years or you fall out of the boat and land on the biggest fish in the lake. If this stand produces like that every year; you have a great stand. I have only had one really great stand. It was in Tenn where I hunted with some friends on a lease property. It was at the head of a huge steep bowl. The deer would take the easy route around the lip of the bowl. First sit always produced. Just a great set up. Congratulations, Sounds like reward for all you long days.
