Not xbow, but bird down...

Post by VixChix »

Was out on Monday with a friend who shared property she had permission to hunt. Had lots of gobbling on the roost in the bright moonlight before dawn, but once legal light arrived they wouldn't commit.

We took a break for brunch at a local diner and enjoyed catching up with forum member R.J. - swapped stories before heading back out.

At 4:15 this tom walked into my decoys. He was over 23 lbs, 1 1/4" spurs, and was a bit beat up from fighting. I used my 870.
(Up at 3 a.m. for a 4 p.m. bird! :? Later on Tim remarked that I could have gone to work and hunted afterwards! )

I'm hoping to use my 2nd tag for my son who just successfully completed his Hunter Ed course last weekend and can now hunt as an apprentice! So excited to be able to hunt with him!

Real nice bird. Cudos to you for taking your son along on your next hunt.

Congratulations also! Does your son have to use your tag? Like most turkey hunters, I use 3 1/2” turkey shells (5s) but have tested low base 2 3/4 (6s) and have been amazed at their tight groups and range. A lot less recoil!
Just mentioning in case your son could benefit.

For now he has to use one of our tags, however they are changing the rules and near future he will be able to purchase his own tag (still share a firearm though). We usually shoot 3" but you're right, that 2 3/4" is adequate as well! Bigger isn't always better. :D
