Oops....l wacked a bearded hen

Been a crazy turkey season for me this year. Lots of birds but....none by me. There has been mining and digging activities near my woods and im pretty sure its effects are negative with the turkey. Work is at a feverish pace making hours hunting limited. Now torential rains every Saturday. Anyway l was greated with loud gobbles at dawn and prepared for a shot . Still kinda dark out.. ..a bearded bird apeared and the little vixen 2 and a xact cut took "him" walking towards me right at the beard. Bird drops in its tracks. ...now seconds later 2 large gobblers apeared up the hill behind not knowing what is going on. ...oh well now l just dropped a legal bearded hen. If i knew it was a hen l think l would have passed but im very proud of the unique trophy l harvested .lf l didnt have 2 girls in collage l think ll would have mounted the beutiful gal.Now the woods are full of bugs ticks and other creapy crawly critters glad to be done. And have gotten to take such a cool trophy with my little vixen .

Congrats Joe. I know what you mean with two girls in College, thank God that's behind us, and it will be behind you too soon.

Just a hint Joe. A red white and blue head will be a gobbler. A pale blue head is always a hen.
Congrats on a unique bird. :eusa-dance:

No . No eggs. Normally l would have felt a little bad taking a hen but this place has a very healthy turkey population. As said it was about a minute into legal shooting time and the gobblers down behind her had me on point and l saw the beard . At that time of the morning blue n red are not that obvious but the beard was clearly visible.

I marinated the breast strips overnite in ranch dressing then wrapped em up in thick amish pepper bacon and deep fried em. ....best tasting turkey l ever shot by far.

Well you said “bacon” and “fried” in the same sentence so it HAD to be good! Congrats again on an unusual trophy.

Will have to remember this way to do turkey, as sounds very good.
