Dry fire!

Post by seabee401 »

Yup ,I did it to my Phoenix, with Flemish string. Then took a big chance by continuing to sight in after close inspection. Has anyone dry fired with a Flemish string and not had problems in the future? A little concerned. :?

Go over the limbs with a cotton ball, then cock it and go over the limbs again.
If no damage is found after a thorough inspection you should be ok.
An ADF works wonders...
I had a dri-fire today as well.
I just hate the "Doink" I hear as the string hits the ADF.
The string I was using was close to needing re-served and has now been set aside and will be my first try at re-serving a string.

My Phoenix has been dry fired two or three times with a flemish string without any adverse effects.

(Not to hijack the thread) BrotherRon - I highly recommend Boo’s videos about serving on YouTube,

(Now back to the matter at hand). I had a “something like a dry fire” on my Assassin. Apparently the arrow somehow got out of the channel or otherwise got out of place before I shot. The arrow obviously didn’t have the full force behind it and went wildly off target. No damage to arrow, bow, or string. I did the cotton all test as recommended above.

The adf can be added to the long limb bows it is not just limited to the new line of bows a nice peace of mind upgrade that is a easy install.

Dry fired my Vortex once back in the day...with a Flemish on it. Got a single splinter that I broke off and sanded. No other ill effects.

Did this to my Exocet 200 for extra security ! I'll also add that you need to polish the ADF so when you do dryfire your bow it doesn't cut your serving.

Never thought of this but this is a good idea. I do know that the ADF is tough on a serving in general.

Thanks for the replies and advice everyone.
Just another question: does Excalibur even make limbs for the old long limbers anymore? I mean what do you do if you had to swap out for a new set? I was actually thinking of getting a Vixen II. But now not so sure.

They have plenty and the molds to make new ones in if needed. They manufacture them in house as needed.
