thanks for all the great info! trying to think outside of the box a bit.never made a string before but wondering if its possible when mixing colors are there material differences coming from the manufacturer or the possibility of a mistake of using different string materials being mixed by the maker of the string.if the bundle lengths arent matched is this something one can look at and see? i know failures can happen with anything. seen a pic of dacron string blow up years back but didnt know this can happen to more modern materials.im running an endless loop factory string now and all is good.no damage to the limbs but im really questioning using a flemish again.

Unless you've used material with vastly different amounts of elasticity in either bundle, the cause is as I said. At every transition, check and compare bundle length and adjust accordingly.
You are doing things by hand so it's extremely difficult to make things perfectly symmetric. Each twist of a bundle is different, string materials differ slightly in diameter. You must have seen a difference in the bundles. It takes a whole lot of practice to get a Flemish string right. I've tried teaching probably 20 people and mostly, they look at me like I'm speaking martian. Of all the people that I've tried to teach, only my wife comes close to getting it. The moral of the story is don't be too disappointed if you have to give up on making strings, just give it a good go and try making 50 or more before you give up. You can always make endless loop strings for yourself. Don't give up!
I agree with Boo. The bundles were different lengths causing more stress on one of them. The only other thing would be that the string got nicked or something and that weakened the black bundle. Was the bow in a case by chance? Anything pressing into the string?

thanks everyone! i did look at the case for possible pinching but there all was clear. the string did have quite a bit of twists in it but being only the black failed im gonna go with builder error.thanks again the knowledge on here is amazing!
