Equipment needed to refletch GT Laser2 bolts

Post by Tman »

Hello to all :D
I know this question has been asked by many but I need sound advice.
My wife has asked me to give her a list of things I would like for Christmas. I see the need to refletch my crossbolts as I just tore one off Today. I would like someone to list all the basic equipment needed to replace the vanes on my bolts.
Something that would allow me to do helical as well.
Thanks.

Tman a little different for carbon VS Alum..

1-Arizona E-Z Fletch 4deg off set with vanes I would stay with 2 deg. off set.
2-3 vanes
3-Super Glue Jell or Fletch-tite glue
4-Acetone to clean bolts

As for doing a helical fletch you must not use any vane over 4" and that still might hit your rail...Feathers are best with helical flecthing.

This method is the easy way....

GaryL,

Thanks for the reply. I see that you list 2 vanes and not 3.
Do bolts with 2 vanes fly better than ones uning 3?
Which model E-Z fletch do you use for the GT Laser 2 bolts?
I will tell the Wife to add the E-Z fletch to her list.
Thanks again and take care.

I believe GaryL was just listing parts in order and #2 on his list are 3 vanes. The EZ fletcher for Alominum arrows will do as carbon model is for much narrower shafts GTlls are same as 22xx shafts.

Thanks Digger,
Since the GT L 2 bolts do not have nocks what do you do to fit them in the E-Z fletch and is it easy to learn to fletch arrows?

The nice thing about the EZ fletcher is it does all 3 vanes at the same time so you don't need to have a nock on the bolt, the arms come up and you slide a keeper over to top till the glue sets. Its real easy to use once you do a couple of bolts.

Digger,
Do you glue on the vanes then close the E-Z fletch?
If so how do you accurately set the vanes for the various degrees of offset
that one could use?

Tman,

I don't think Digger saw your post. I bought my vanes and glue off of BJ. You can ask him for some pointers too.

Clean shafts first
put vanes in EZ fletcher and then glue is put on vanes very carefull
close EZ flecther wait a few min, open and remove shaft, start another bolt...

No nocks needed with EZ flecther... :!:

Tman, put the vanea in the slots on the are, put a small amount of glue on the vanes then close the arms , slide the keerer ovcer the bolt and arms wait 60 seconds . Then remove the keeper , pull the arms away from the bolt. I put a dab of glue at the front of thr vane for extra hold.

Digger you good  , also Tman I would take a couple old 22 size bolts or arrows and practice on a couple first. It is not that hard but it do take a few times to get it down pat.

Also be careful about cleaning off the old vanes on your carbon II's...a dull knife used as a scraper will work fine do not use a sharp one as you will most likely cut your carbon fiber and thats not good.

Make sure you clean the shaft real good with Acetone or rubbing
alcohol. The Acetone can be finger nail polish remover with out a oil base..
