well last Night about 7:30 I heard my wife , who was at the barn feeding her horse, coming to the house screaming like she was bit by a snake, dave, dave ,come quick Theres a whole litter of baby skunks in the barn, get them out before they spray Bunny (her horse) so being the protective husband that I am, i went hobbling as fast as I could hobble into the barn to be met with 5 baby skunks about 8-9 inches long, cute as they could be. so I went to herding them out and yep, you guessed it I got sprayed ugh what a smell when it is fresh, well any way when they left the barn I got the water hose and sprayed them back, but then my dog willy jo seen them and holy crap, so here I go hobbling as fast I can again to keep him from getting sprayed , too late so in my attempt to stop him I got sprayed again, Well when all the fumes cleared I bathed willy jo with every thing I could find that smelled good, so I head to the house to take a shower and my sweet darling wife said no way , you go to the barn and take a well water bath the same as willy jo, so i'm thinking I did this all for her and she wants me to bathe with extremely (COLD) well water This just aint my day,

Wow ! The only thing that I found that works is to build a fire and you and the dog stand in the smoke for a while ,it does something with the acid of the skunk spray . After a few hours you can then wash the smoke off. If you got it bad you may have to repeat .

So you go in to save her hay burner under her orders, you get sprayed and then get told that you have to wash in cold water that isn't as effective in removing the stink? Hmmmmm, what size trousers does the little commander and chief wear?
The best way I've found to get rid of most of the smell is to wash my dogs in real warm water instantly.

Well stinky, you made my weekend. Laughed my ass off. I've been sprayed twice as a kid trying to keep my dog away. As skunk spray is oil based, you have much better luck using iso alcohol and rags to wipe off the worst of the stink. Hope you smell better soon. LOL

Tomatoes, whole tomatoes not juice or sauce. For hard or sunk in musk, kerosene works well! Been there and smelled it! At least you didn’t get it in your mouth! That’s the worst.

peroxide, baking soda and a spoon of dawn dish soap works really good just have to avoid the eyes and the sooner you use it the better. i have had to use it twice on my german shepherd, the first time the skunk got through the deck lattice and my dog ripped lattice off and brought the skunk out and killed it. was satisfied with the results of this recipe both times and he was back in the house the next day after he was completely dry. now im sure to keep ingredients on hand

100% agree. I used palmolive dish soap and it was perfect. My old yellow lab was scent free and back inside the house the same night. This works perfectly.
