I got a great deal on this used bow and there was very little wrong with it other than a few chips on the limbs and the (faux) carbon finish on the stock was worn and dull looking in some spots. It also was in need of a new string and string stops.
First I put on a new factory string and dB killer bumpers just so I could shoot it which you see in the before picture below and after shooting around 100 arrows thru it I decided it was a keeper for me but i wanted more in the appearance department.
I replaced the 7.5” factory arrow retainer with a 5.5” retainer (which was graciously donated by a forum member) because I felt the extra length on the long arm was not providing enough tension on the arrow unless I bent it down so it was slamming into the rail when the arrow was shot. I was happy with this decision.
Next I replaced the bumpers with Danny Miller bumpers and painted the limbs and stock with SEM Landau Black color coat. This finish was recommended by several forum members and the color and appearance is exactly what I was looking for.
The final step was the cerakote on the riser and rail. This bow is going to be used mainly for hunting from ground blinds so the finish I selected is Elite-110q midnight. It is really hard to describe how slick this finish is except to compare it to Teflon covered glass. I will be monitoring any serving wear from the rail but I really don’t expect any at all.
I am extremely pleased with how this project turned out and look forward to hearing from other members on their own projects. Thanks to everyone that gave guidance, suggestions and general input during this project.
Bi-pod is for bench shooting and picture posing, it is removed for hunting.
