String broke on shot

Post by 884savage »

On my fifth shot of the day today, my string snapped at the right loop. My target was at 20 yards, and my arrow still hit it with about half the penetration of a normal shot and about 6 inches low. That leads me to believe that the arrow still absorbed quite a bit of the force. I'm still concerned however about the limbs. I can't see any visible damage. Thoughts? Ways to test to see if there's a problem besides shooting it with another string?

What most will do in a situation like yours is inspect both limbs with a magnifying glass then rub a cotton ball along limbs looking for slivers or delamination.
It sounds like your limbs will be fine after a partial dryfire.
I have to ask, but when was your last string inspection done?

I actually let 1/2 a twist out of both sides after the 4th shot, so I'd say about 20 seconds before the shot. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Sounds like one loop wasn't in the proper position after adjusting it. I did that once...........now i look at the back side of the limb tips to confirm the string is fully in the grooves after adjusting/changing a string.

I'll try. I never could get pictures to load a few years ago but haven't tried in awhile.

Sounds like a great excuse to go string shopping in the trades section

I coincidentally ordered 2 new strings this morning, and then when shooting it snapped. I'll try to get a picture going here soon. I love this forum, but the picture uploads leave a bit to be desired.
