Six weeks from Saturday

Post by grouse »

It's August 1 and opening day of our Missouri archery season is finally coming into sight. Our season opens on Sept. 15 which is just 6 weeks from this coming Saturday. A look into our freezer revealed just 5 pounds of ground venison remaining from last season's 3 deer. I'm looking forward to trying to re-fill it. I'm also looking forward to reading more actual hunting stories on this forum instead of just posts about equipment (which is all there is to talk about before the seasons start). It's about time start getting ready!

Freezer and stomach are without venison for the last 2 months. Season starts here in Georgia Sept. 8 so I’m getting pumped.

I've got 10-20 pounds left of mostly sausage and ground, but I'll be empty before the end of August by design. Nothing gives me motivation like an empty freezer. I'm more than two months out on actual archery season, but gun antlerless season opens 1 Sep in Northern VA and I generally switch over to archery after the opening weekend if lady luck keeps shining.

There's still plenty of work to do to get ready. My annual trail cleaning day and safety rope hanging is still a couple weeks away. It may be a multi-day affair this year. The stands and climbing sticks need a thorough safety check which normally requires a few new straps.

The anticipation this time of the year is awesome.

I can't wait either; it seems this summer I have been very busy. Hope to slow down when deer season starts. Still need to shoot my crossbow as I changed to 20 inch Zombies and lighted nocks.
