CHARGER Crank Noise

Post by nchunterkw »

Did a short shooting session last night using my new crank on the Micro. I like it very much but it is not silent. Depending on how the line wraps back into the crank, you can get a loud TWANG (or two) during the draw. Anybody have any good ideas how to avoid this? It's happens when the line in the crank, under tension, snaps off of a larger wrap down to the main spool, I think. After I was done a had my wife hold the crank and I pulled the hooks all the way out and tried to get a nice even wrap back into the crank on both sides. Then it started pouring so I didn't test that. That's about all I can think of to do.

If you are talking about the C2 then what you did by rewrapping the line should work. You can also try taking one coil of line off of the noisy side. Both of these methods have worked for me with the C2 but if you got the charger then I’m clueless.

Hope this helps

Try waxing the string . My c2 did the same thing and that took care of it .

I think what we are hearing is the arrow spring hitting the string as it goes under it the reason I say this is when you cock it with the rope it goes faster through that area . with the charger it is moving slower as it can rewind the string just so fast . I have over 100 uses on my charger and it is still doing it . it is a pop . I had My wife watch the crossbow when I was cocking it with the charger and the sound was right there at the spring . I did try waxing it no different unless it is the line getting stretchered

Disregard the other reply I now am sure I know what it is. It is the spring or springs inside the charger that are doing it they are being tightened up when it is cranked and they are making the sounds they are used to retracted the string and the hooks that would make a little more sense as I just tried it on my GRZ2 and it did the same thing.

its about as loud as when you decock it! Not really good for recocking on a miss or even in the stand. Sometimes it does it 2 or 3 times depending on how the string re-wrapped. I'll keep messing with it. waxing helped some but it's all in how it wraps back up. It's not controlled as it goes back on the spindle. SO it can bunch up all in one place.

I emailed Excalibur about this and the response I got was the noise is the string wrapping around the spool.

I can see the rope becoming a tangled mess at some point to some one . I am going to try and add a little pressure to the string as it retracts to see if the string will level wind .

I just got one today, and I am pretty disgusted that a $200 crank would make this noise. If I don't find a way to fix it, its going back to Excalibur..

Curiously enough, my Micro 315 does not make the noise but my 405 does.
