Swacker problem

Post by Robfromga »

Micro 355 shooting a zombie killer with the brass inserts and 125gn head at 319fps.

I've shot ramcats for years, just wanted to try a larger wound channel BH. Grabbed some 125gn 2.25" swackers. The practice tip hits 100% perfect to 40 yds. Which is the longest shot I can practice. Tried a actual BH at 20yds and WIDE right, missed the whole target. New band, different arrow, bounced off the ground before the target. Tried another BH on a different arrow and it hit the block, but just barely and I could see it flying like a corkscrew. From the block you could see the entry was with the blades open. Put the practice tip back on the same arrow, dead nuts on out to 40.

So I'm using the supplied white bands. They're in the groove. They are tight. But when they launch, they open.

Any ideas besides go back to ramcats

Sounds to me like bad bands. You could try dental bands. Are you having problems with the Ramcats?

I thought the white bands were stronger than dental bands?
No, no problems with ramcats, I'd like to see a little bigger wound channel.

There have been a few posts on this and other forums lately stating the same issue with the white band so I wonder if they had a bad lot. I ordered some replacement yellow bands a few years ago when I was shooting swhackers and they crumbled when I opened the bag new. Dental bands are superior imho and is what I would use with mechanicals that required banding.

You can make your own with proper sized shrink tubing. Make them whatever size works.
Again i have never heard if this issue or had it happen to me.
I did read on swhackers website high speed crossbows this may happen if blades have oil on them and it gets onto the bands making them stretch like elastics causing them to open.
Other then that swhackers are simple to use dependable and drop deer fast.

These "feel" fine. If that makes sense.
I worry that the dental bands won't allow it to open? Which band should I try?

Are you say use the black heat shrink? I've never seen a white heat shrink.
Heads are brand new out if the box.
Thoughts on dental bands?

You can get the shrink tubing either black or white at Home Depot in the electrical dept. and there is no difference in the strength. I guess the good thing about it is that you can cut different widths and experiment until your desired results are achieved.

I use the white band--- plus a 1/4" x-heavy 6oz. dental band from e-bay for insurance.

Spoke to the swacker rep today. He was really shocked at the problem. Wanted to be sure I didn't have counterfeit heads.

We talked about band placement. I'm doing everything correct, it's kinda hard to screw up. He's sending out new heads in 125gn and 150gn. Plus some more bands. He said that he guys use two bands. And to try that. He also said that they use a micro 355 in testing, which is what I shoot. He also said the ravins shoot a single band. He was sorta stumped, thinking I got some bad bands, but wants me to try the new heads and if that doesn't work he's going to involve one of the engineers.... I'm just happy btuat they're trying , really good customer service.

I just got some of the 1/4" 3.5 oz bands. I hope they are heavy enough.
