string tension

Post by Cardinalsfanforever »

New to crossbows. 6 week old matrix 380. had to put 3 twists in string to get it off the reds approx. 1/4". Do they stretch that much? How much overall stretch should I expect?

The strings do stretch. I only use custom Flemish strings and they only take about 30 shots to stretch them out. Good luck!

Some on this site have suggested to leave the bow cocked over night after putting on a new string. I have done it and it helps get the stretch out quicker.

Nothing gets the string creep out faster than shooting. Alternatively you could easily build a jig (see my website) and put it under tension, wax it and get it hot by rubbing with your fingers and leaving it until it cools down.
When shooting a new string in, keep your brace height a couple of string widths or more above your desired mark. That will speed things up.
