Best string for my 380, just had one fail, aaah

Post by TDHunter »

I just had a flemish string give way after only max70-100 shots, fortunately only one bundle gave watery so it wasn't a total dry fire. The string was made by a reputable string maker as well.
First off who makes a bomb proof string? Feel free to pm me with goods or bands if it's easier.
Also how much lube should I be using? I have the excal stuff? Is there a better rail lube??
Thanks guys

Bummer! Light lube on rail, clean is better in my opinion. Contact the string maker and get them to send you another one. Stuff happens!

As previously mentioned...$*-# happens
There are several quality string makers on this forum, never heard a complaint about any of their products.

Did you have enough twists in the string?

Keep in mind a string is a "wear item" and will wear with use, and no string is bomb proof.

I know a guy who cut his string three times on one sight in session with the broad head and didn't notice. After the third cut was discovered... we stopped shooting the bow. It happenes

I got no problem with a string wearing, but I figured I should get at least a few hundred shots. I'm new to crossbows so here's a question:

How many shots should I get out of a d97 twist string??

who makes a good string?

You should easily get a few hundred shots on a well maintained string. Serving may have to be reserved in between those shots

Any of the 4 or 5 string makers in the trading post are all seasoned, well experienced string makers

A picture of your broken string would be very helpful in determining your string life. You can copy and paste the post below to show how to post pictures. It would also be helpful if you input your location in your registration to aid in finding a string maker.

IMO stop using the rail lube, clean all that crap off. Here is my YT video as to what I do----https://bit.ly/2OmjrEl
The top string maker on this board told me at the most to apply a dry silicone spray applied to a clean cloth & wipe rail.

Wipe off the rail occasionally and no rail lube.

You should get a few hundred shots out of your serving, assuming your latched are in good shape. A thousand shots minimum is what you should get out of your string, given a few reservings.
If your string broke dead center and you're using aluminum rear nocks, then look at the nocks for nicks and gouges. It doesn't take much to cut a string. If it broke at the end of the serving, one bundle was probably shorter of longer than the other bundle, but it takes a lot of unevenness. If it broke around the limb tip, look closely at the groove for any imperfections. That last one isn't very common, but I know it's happened.

Does one kind of string , Flemish twist or endless loop have a longer life span or is that all just string material.
