2018 Az Elk Season

Post by elkaholic »

Well the short of it -- No Elk Tagged.

Was a great time . I Spent A week scouting and 14 days hunting.

Just being in the woods and chasing bugling elk , made it all worth while.

lOTS OF UPS AND DOWNS , CLOSE ENCOUNTERS AND WATCHING THEM WALK AWAY AND DISSAPEAR.

Helped a guy trak and recover his bull.. Always fun after dark with flashlights.!

Heres a few pics. I can only hope i get drwan agin next yr.

the elk was out of my range limit 75 yrds . bear came in at 60 -no tag -- the turkeys came just about everyday at 20-40 yrds-no tag-

my brushed in ground blind middle of a 90yrd across tank

the big bull we chased bugling accrosss the flats and meadows, seceral days, he wouldn't respond to the calls and he never showed at the tank in the evenings,

a pic of the bull I helped recover

heres the one thing I wasnt happy seeing at elk camp. after 18 days I hear something coming down the road. now I'm at least 2 miles down a side rd, on the backside of a mountain, loggers couldn't wait 3 more days to start. I had to pull camp

Sounds like hunting! I'm sure you know that this year's experience will add to next years! Good luck next year!
I've hunted Elk for many years and killed 2. My experience is that because they tend to be in herds, it all or nothing and often nothing for me! :eusa-violin:

My bucket list is so heavy I need a wagon to haul it around.
I just love Elk flank steaks, they serve them at my fly fishing club once a year and I just drool on the table
