Unless you’re planning on flinging steel rebar, you really can’t get too heavy.
If memory serves me, (which admittedly, it frequently doesn’t these days), I think the elephant hunters typically used a 1,000-grain fiberglass arrow.
I’ve moved up from 450-grain arrows to 600-grains. Sure, in my old 175-lb Exocet it putts along at 268 fps, but it really quiets the bow down and I ALWAYS get a pass-through — which I value highly when blood-trailing.
