Exocet question?

Post by morepowr »

Is the brown version of the exocet a real wood stock or synthetic? I am thinking about purchasing one and am deciding between the brown or camo. Any opinions from you all would be appreciated. Also does anyone have a pic of the brown exocet.

They're all synthetic.

The brown is synthetic. Here is a link to Excal's Deerhide Brown Exocet.

Both are the same synthetic material. The deer hide brown model is the bare bones model withno supression bars and no camo. I have a vixen in brown and added the features I wanted. Exocet is the middle of the road model, its right for hunting and target shooting, it will knock down any North American game.

That is exactly what I am looking for then, but I think I will opt for the camo.

I got the brown model because I liked the looks of it better. I also decided against the dissipator bars as not really needed for me. I do a lot of thick swamp hunting and it was just something to add wt. & catch on stuff while crawling around in the thick brush. I listened to one with it & mine and it does seem to suppress the sound somewhat. However it is still plenty loud, for the deer to hear at any range and the sounds travel at the same speed :). It won't make any difference, in whether the deer can get out from under the bolt (which I think is very doubtful anyway). The camo companies get a royalty which is passed on in the price. Just get whatever turns you on.. and the budget will allow. Just get one of the Excals.

I got the Exomag in the plain brown wrapper and I love it. I later added the db bars and they do make a difference. I've taken the bow into the woods, and while doing some lane clearing leanded it up against a tree, then look back and have a hard time seeing it in the natural environment. It blends right it. I had thought about doing a camo paint job on it, but after trying it in the woods, decided against it.

I sayI like the DP bars/pads for my ears only, plus they add a little HIGH TEC. to the crossbow  As far as the sound part....take a tape player and put it off to the side of you and shoot at a target at 20 yards...what you will hear on the tape is thunk..thunk, Take the tape player and put it out front 10 yards and off a little to the side and shoot again...what you will hear on the tape is thunk.thunk, take the tape recorder and set it on or beside your target at 20 yards and shoot again...all you will hear is a very low thunk, the bolt as it hits the target :!:

If no dp bars/pads it is a little louder when tested with the tape recorder beside you past that point it is the same.

Digger: I have the Black Vixen with the DB bars and wouldn't trade it for anything. Just wondering if you use anything in the string for noise suppression? I started out with the string puffs but found them to be more trouble than they were worth. My Vixen Deluxe is quiet, deadly quiet without string silencers.

What say you?

You may want to try the twin stabilizers if your shooting 3 D bstout, they take most of the string recoil out of the bow. If you put about 5 " hot water pipe insulation on top of your stockthe sound will sound more muted to you.Cost is a few pennies or nothing if you take off your pipes.
