Got a nice doe

Post by BrotherRon »

Went hunting this weekend and had a huge doe come in Saturday nught that I have been watching on camera.
Always traveled alone and didn't have a fawn.
She was 42 yards away standing broadside and I had a rest on the stand I was sitting in so I took the shot.
Arrow entered right behind the left front shoulder, hit a rib and angled upwards a little so the blood trail was steady but not great until the cavity filled to the entrance hole. The arrow hit the liver and lungs. I took my crossbow back to the cabin and climbed in the mule to get her... Tracked her about 70 yards through the brush until I lost the blood trail in the dark, so I went back out this morning and found the blood trail again and she was only another 20 yards farther. Brother in-law helped me and he said it was the biggest doe he has seen in years. She had up to 2 inches of tallow on her back and flanks. (probably because she wasn't nursing a fawn) Got her cut up and in the freezer today so now I can take my time hunting an oddball buck in the area - He has 5 points on the left with a double brow tine, 3 points on an antler coming out his right ear counting a sticker, and another 2 points on an antler coming out the back of his head.
