Buck Down

Post by janesy »

Woke up this morning early. I really didn't want to go. Didn't have my gear ready, couldn't find my gloves, snow piled high on my windshield.
Got to the property 30 minutes late cause I was dragging my ass. Walked in in my under layer and got dressed about 100 yards for the stand . Got in and settled and man, every stick, branch, leaf and rain drop made such a racket I felt like my head's was on a peg is was dancing around so much.
One thing I hadn't considered, I had moved my tree stand up 6 or 7 feet in the tree earlier this year. And all the branches that were offering me cover before, were now hanging down all around me due to the weight of the snow. I literally could see nothing unless it was directly below me. I had one little opening I could see through. LOL

All this bad stuff , went away when I caught a glimpse of movement from over my shoulder. Through the trees I saw antlers, and thought boy if this guy walks into my ONE window. I'm taking him no matter what.
Sure as shat, he stopped at a log on the trail. I could see his chest and most of his torso through the window, And that's all the Pitbull needed.
He was hit hard, staggard back, jumped the log. Walked twenty yards and staggered again.(I was crouching down under the branches to see). He took another 10 yard stroll and layed up. I heard him crash, so I sat down and calmed myself for 10 minutes.

This is a special deer for me, my first Crossbow deer, my first Buck period. I used the micro I built myself, and an arrow I just built for myself. 400 grain Zombie with a Wasp Drone for the pointy bit. Perfect hit low behind the shoulder, double lung. I was feeling pretty good, sat beside him, pat him on the shoulder and offered a little thank you. Ill have more pics shortly

Here's the details. Shot was at 28/29 yards. He went 30 yards walking. Double lung, bled like crazy. Wasp Drone 120 grain. (125 grain with 100 grain washers) 15.5" zombies, 400 grain total, at 348 fps.
Pic shows entrance. Exit is near identical. Blood trail, started immediately and looked this this from start to finish. Wasp Drone did well for a small compact head. Very impressed.
