It's time!

Post by BrotherRon »

Every year I try to schedule vacation so I can be in the woods between the 3'rd and 9'th of November.
We are not working Fridays so I loaded up most of my things last night and will be taking the dog north to run for an hour while I unload the truck and get things set up, then home to shower and back to the cabin by myself. The goofy looking buck has been fighting and has broken the antler that comes out the back of his head. :( There is a respectable 8 pointer in the area as well as a few other smaller bucks. This time of year the bucks do a lot of running and you never know what will show up.
I will be armed with my Matrix 310, my new "Hot Ma Mah" call and my wabi call

Good luck to you! I'm off 3-11 Nov for the same reason, but I'm not too optimistic this year. I haven't seen anything larger than a 4-point in more than a month. I'm also not seeing a lot of movement at all, even at night. But, whenever the bucks do start cruising looking for doe that is a great time to be in the woods. I'm thinking we are a week too early this year, but that won't stop be from being out there. As you mentioned, there is just no telling what you might see. The two nicest deer I've taken were ones that I'd never seen before that were cruising outside of their normal home area.

Back home, showered, loading the last couple things.
seeing fawns laying on the side of the roads so the doe's have chased them away.
Almost hit a buck on the way to work Thursday morning as he crossed the road with his nose to the ground.
I also noticed last weekend that the doe's and fawns are coming to the bait piles all hours of the day so the bucks must be running them ragged.
Best of luck and safe hunting to everyone else out there.

soon has a lot of pics on his cams this week. Must be moving. He has my M380, hope he does good. I'm in Nashville for my 45th anniversary. I'll be hunting heavy next week hopefully.

it's time and timing is everything! the rut is on big time in NE WI which would be why, after doing fall chores last weekend, my back took a crap & i've been laying on a heating pad all week! should be able to climb a tree tonight but will have to get the boys to drag out the turdy pointer for me. Good luck to everybody at this best time of year.
