Need Canadian Air!!

Post by Guest »

We're in the pits of deer hunting hell down here. I got up this morning at the usual 4am and looked at the thermometer. 62°F outside at 4 am. Steady south wind at 15mph. Not good. I didn't even go out to the woods. Wind cranked up today to 25 steady with gusts to 35 or 40, and the temp hit 80°F! Rut? What rut? It's called the silent rut, and takes place at night in these conditions. Now we have heavy storms on the way and the wind is still blowing hard.

So, you guys up north, *please* send some of that good clean Canadian air this way. We could use it. I can hear the deer sweating in their winter coats. :?

I agree with our Guest. It hit 87 here today in Missouri. This is not how it is supposed to be. PLEASE help us out, and send down some of that sweet cool Canadian air.

May sound like a stupid question but with the warm weather we are having will it quiet down the rut until it gets colder or will it be business as usual for the bucks??

Ya want cool weather, then come visit me!!!!!! We got about 8-10 inches of snow, a week and a half ago. Most of it is gone, but its still cool. Getting down to minus 8 degrees tomorrow night. If you follow lunar moons, the rut should be a lot earlier this year, about Nov. 10, mix in with cool temps. it should be good in a couple of weeks.

I'm pumped, on Monday my son Little Owl (12 years old) will be hunting deer for the very first time. He'll be using a 30-30 Winchester open sights. All that shooting with his single shot .22 into the woodpile this summer has paid off. At 50 yards he's hitting a 3 inches diameter every time. There's a nice 8 pointer, beyond his ears, that calls home right behind our trailer on our property. Could of nailed him with the muzzleloader several times, a little to far off for the Exomag.

Hopefully have pictures soon.

I'm the 'guest' that started this thread. Oops! again. This Norton security keeps dumping my cookies and I have to log in to all my forums over and over.
It was cooler today, only 65°F, but the winds were outrageous. I scouted a new spot and found plenty of deer sign, including a dozen field edge scrapes. I also cleared some spots to put up my ground blind.
And um, no, we don't want your dagone east wind! We finally got rid of ours for a day or two.
From what I've seen around here, when it gets warm during the rut, things just happen at night and daytime activity is a lot less than usual.
Grey Owl...I've got my snowshoes packed and I'm on my way! Snow and 8° sounds pretty good right now. I knew there was some cold, clear, clean air in Canada somewhere. Good luck to Little Owl.
