2nd Rut

Post by ko4nrbs »

In October and November I saw a lot of yearling does and fawns. Hoping they go into estrous this month.

Last year around the middle of December I saw an increase of bucks on the trail cameras. About a 8 to 10 days or so later they had disappeared.

Where I hunt I don't really get serious until the second week of december that is when I see and have a chance at some of the bigger bucks. In fact while walking today I noticed 4 fresh scrapes :D

Rut what rut, sure ain't been none here this yr you could find. No rubs no scrapes, no need fer it here, so many Doe's Bucks never have to set up shop.

The terrain where I hunt sounds very similar to yours and I have noticed the same thing this season. I have not found a single rub or scrape yet. I have one set of pics on camera of two bucks following a doe, but that is it. Now that I think about it, last season I didn't find any until well into December. Maybe they don't start marking their range around here until after the main rut.

Just had an 8pt run behind work chasing 5 does. Kept puttin his nose to her rear and tried to mount, but she wanted nothing to do with him today.

Funny to watch as the other four does would always surround her. Trying to protect her....
