The incomplete lineup

Post by longbow joe »

A friend of mine had his young boy(12) over the house the other day and he was having trouble cocking my vixen 2 but he was getting it done. He wants to buy one for him but l explained thet the vixen 2 has long limbs and it's only 150 lbs. The "weakest " hunting bow now excalibur makes is the 308 like 250 pounds l think. Basically the kid has the crappy Barnett recurve to pick from. I just dont know why they plucked both the axiom and the vixen from their lineup when both these bows served a purpose. I believe we just found a new sapphire for him.......another cancelled bow.

The cocking effort of the GRZ2 is not 200 it is 100 the G340 is 115 and the 308 is 127 . The cocking effort is half the draw wt.

I don't know if it's the short limbs but the dad says the kid can't do a 308 for some reason .

Probably is. In my experience short limbs are harder to cock than long limbs everything else being equal.

heck I can't do 115 . I got a charger crank and use it every time I even use it on the GRZ2 I'm not to proud as to not use it and hurt myself . Yes the shorter limbs a harder to pull back.

All the micros being even, they are pretty stout. The 308 is just over faster. It's not any easier. But, with that said, it sure is a lot nicer to have it over before it gets hard.

Did you try to cock the 308 Short at the store the other day?
Is it a height or strength issue for you XB?

There is no doubt the recurve bows are simple and require less attention.

However the mechanical advantage goes to the compound.

If you want an easy cocking bow with good speed for a young hunter why not get a compound.

Just my 2 cents..

My 13yo (was 12 when he got the bow) can do the Cub, the Sapphire, and the Grizzly. Short draw length and easy poundage. My 24yo daughter who is 5'0" on a good day couldn't do the Axiom or the Matrix 330, but she can do the Grizzly and Sapphire. And she had the arm strength to toss 50# bags of feed around the barn. I gave her the Grizzly now that she is married and moved out. For the kids, stick with the low poundage bows based on the Matrix lineup (like the ones I mentioned, or maybe the G340). It's all about how far they have to pull up (draw length) and how strong their arms need to be to make it those last few inches (draw weight). The Micros have shorter limbs, so they need a bit more muscle power to get them flexed.
